VALENTINE COUNTDOWN
$12

Don't you love counting down for Christmas.  Why not countdown for other holidays and big events too. This is a Valentines countdown made with a $.99 IKEA frame, a deck of playing cards, and lots of patterned paper and cha cha.  TTHis might look like a hot mess in the pictures but each card is a visual array of Valentine bling.
This idea came from one of my scrapbook designer idols. Margie Romney Aslett.  She is a local Farmington girl but her designs and inspiration are known nationwide throughout the industry. She has a series of SPARK workshops that give you the step by steps of her creations.  Right now she has a "Spark your Love and Home" coming anyday.  Her Instagram posts are the BEST.  JustaGirl

NEXT... I will make a birthday countdown for my girls.

It is the funnest (I know thats not a word) photo app EVER.  She is the same talented lady I got my chalkart idea from.  I think the app is like $3.99 but you will get designs that I paid 10x that amount from her digital store.   Her app was voted best of 2013 app on the iphone. FRIEDNSY FRIDAY craft night

FRIENDSY FRIDAY craft Night
Friday Oct 11th
5:30 -8:30 pm

Come get creative with us and bring your friends to our biggest craft night of the year.  We will be making fun projects for the upcoming holidays.  We saw a lot of young women interested in the crafts, you are welcome to bring them to our craft night.  Nothing like bonding with your daughter over hot glue, paper and scissors.

Sunday 29th will be your last time to view the crafts at church or stop by Michelle's house.
We need to have signups and money collected by TUESDAY OCTOBER 1st.   There are many things we need to order.  Somethings may be in short supply so it will be first come first serve if we can't get enough supplies.  So sign up early.  In case you were worried per the RS newsletter last week,  We did find more witch legs.  But still sign up early.

Please bring all money to Michelle Vance by October 1st.  Some of these crafts are expensive and she needs the money to start buying all the supplies.
There will be an envelope on her doorstep to leave the money in.

This year we have set a schedule for the crafts.  This allows the teachers to have time to do their own projects.  Please be courteous to the scheduled time. If you can't make it at that time, you can get instructions on how to do it at home.

5:30 YARN LETTERS
6:00 - VELVET PUMPKINS
6:30 - WITCH & SANTA WREATH
7:00 BLESSED BANNER
7:30 WITCHY HAT

Also feel free to get CREATIVE.  My color choices may not be your favorite.  You are welcome to substitute with your own supplies.  Let me know if you need help knowing where to get something or estimating how much you would need.

YARN LETTERS 5:30
$13 - $16 per set
Turn basic paper mache letters into yarn works of art.  These letters take a while to wrap.  Each letter took 30 minutes or more.  Its a great TV watching thing to do.
Choose from
BOO $13
FALL $16
 JOY $13
These are just my ideas.  Feel free to make up your own color combos.  I would suggest you not get too thin a yarn...it would take forever to wrap.

VELVET PUMPKINS  6:00
$3 plain
$5 with crochet doiley
These are no velvet Elvis's.  These are yummy rich velvet beauties.  So many fun colors to choose from.  Gold, Olive, Orange, Deep red, Turquoise, White, Grey

WE NEED REAL PUMPKIN STEMS for these. I was at Smiths and picked up 8 broken off stems today.  So beg your local produce guy for any broken off stems.  If you can't find any...thick dried vines would work too.  Most of my samples were ivy wines.

You can make one in 15 minutes flat.  They are super EASY and kind of addictive.  I made about 6 while watching Duck Dynasty.  (I don't think Willie or Jase would have these around their redneck home)

WITCH WREATH 6:30
$29
($14 of it is the witch legs)
Come make this witchy mesh wreath sure to delight the little monsters this Halloween.
We have found more witch legs at Ben Franklin crafts but have bought out all they had in Kaysville.  So sign up early.
If you don't want to see 20 of exact witch wreaths hanging on everyones door in the ward...you can come up with your own color combos.  I can tell you where to get the supplies.  The hats come in purple too...it would look great with lime green mesh dress and those same witch legs.
My  4 little witches are going to get a fun pink and black combo.  So get CREATIVE.

SANTA WREATH 6:30
$15 approx
Still looking for Santa hats to use.  This is my personal one.
Its never too late to get ready for Christmas. This cute Santa wreath will help you get in the spirit.  DId you know Elder Faust said "Perhaps you and I could attain greater happiness if we emulated Santa Claus a  little more, for his way is the way of the Infant JESUS. "

I need to retake this picture...its much cuter than this.

BLESSED BANNER 7:00
$8
Count your blessings...name them one by one.  Make this rustic burlap banner to hang in your home and remind your family how truly BLESSED you are.

If you don't like my crazy turquoise touches...feel free to substitute with your own accents.
But I think everything is better in Tiffany Blue ;)

WITCHY POO HAT 7:30
$14
Are you a Good Witch or a Bad Witch???
Come get WITCHY with us as we make this spooky and cute HAT.  Its a pretty fast craft.  You will "ruffle" paper and learn to make rolled flowers.  Once you learn how...you will find everything needs a little rolled flower on it.

REMEMBER TO INVITE YOUR FRIENDS so they can see how much fun being in 2nd ward can be!!!!

BACK TO SCHOOL BREAKFAST

BACK TO SCHOOL BREAKFAST

We had a great back to school breakfast.  Each year at this time, I feel like it is a new year.  Time to put the lazy days of summer away and a time to get back on track. A time to set goals for our family. A time to recommit to read scriptures. A time to be better.  Those goals might all fade away by October, but it still feels like a renewal.

We fed ourselves silly as we celebrated this time of year.
We ate super yummy Lemon Ricotta Waffles with Heavenly Maglebys spyrup.  You could literally take a bath in it...it was sooooo good.

for the recipe go to

for the recipe go to

Nina VanWaggen turned us onto to this bomb shell and she uses real cream instead of buttermilk.

Its always fun to find an excuse to decorate and this breakfast was no exception.
I tried 2 new things I have never done before...shopping at DI and trying my hand at chalk art.

The sisters dined at fun tables set with an eclectic array of school things...globes...paper ruler runners....old books stacked up....pencil cups....and quotes about learning.
These pencil cups were used as decoration...but each boasted the name of one of the 6 sisters in the ward that are teachers.  We gave these gifts to them later since they were all at school teaching while we were feasting.  Thank you for teaching our children.

We also kicked off our Doctrine and Covenants class with our dear Brother Gibbons.  We are truly blessed to have him in our ward.  You leave each week with a renewed commitment to teach our children better, to read study and ponder the scriptures more earnestly.  It truly fills me up each week.  WE LOVE YOU BROTHER GIBBONS.
We gave each sister a scripture marking pencil for the class with a scripture attached.
...seek learning even by study and also by faith....D&C 88:118

We reconnected with other sisters and neighbors and discovered a new waffle to love.

I am even a little less creeped out by DI after finding all those great books and scoring this old mirror for $10. I busted the mirror out and made a chalkboard in my signature color.  Everything looks better in Tiffany Blue.
HAVE A GREAT BACK TO SCHOOL YEAR!

GOD BLESS AMERICA

We are blessed to have a national treasure in our own ward.
Jim Hansen served as a US Congressman for 22 years.  He spent most of his life protecting the values we Americans hold dear.   He opened up his beautiful log home office and once campaign headquarters to us.  What a perfect place to hear him speak.
He reminded us of what made our country so great - The FOUNDING FATHERS- who never gave up the battle for our freedoms we hold so dear.  Brother Hansens knowledge and love of our country run deep.

What a perfect backdrop for our night.  To hear this great man speak and stir our hearts and to look at all the beauties that surround our blessed Farmington.
It was truly a blessed night and ended with a yummy icecream social.
Thank you Brother and Sister Hansen

Mirror Mirror Enrichment

MIRROR MIRROR
Find the Beauty

Come help us welcome our 7 soon to be members into Relief Society.  The graduating young women are Jayden Corbridge, Jayna Scadden, Jessica Jenson, Carlie Reiche, Hannah Garff, MaryBeth Johnson, and Tibby Crowley.
We will have fun mini classes that will help us all find our beauty.
Plan on enjoying the tasty treats and mingling with our newest members.

President Gordon B. Hinckley said, “Some of you may feel that you are not as attractive and beautiful and glamorous as you would like to be. Rise above any such feelings, cultivate the light you have within you, and it will shine through as a radiant expression that will be seen by others” (Ensign, May 1995, 99).

************
I was so busy running around that night I forgot to snap pictures until the very end.  DARN.

Here is how our night went.
We had 4 mini classes the girls and sisters could attend.
Heather Smith did a healthy haircare class and treated the graduates to a fancy do.  She taught them how to take care of their hair and great inexpensive products to use.
Lisa Anderson taught us about ways to incorporate healthy eating habits into our lives.  Her daughter Ashley who is in college gave these incoming freshman great tips to start off eating right at college and avoid the Freshman 15.   Where was Ashley when I started college.  I guess she was waiting to be born.
Michelle Vance taught a intro into the cross training craze sweeping the fitness world.  The girls and sisters did a 20 minute circuit routine that kept their heart rates up and strength trained at the same time.
Celeste Carter and LuJayne Hyde had a fun  nailcare class. The girls were treated to a mani.  Nail art is all the rage these days.
Chan Swann gave a great inspirational and spiritual talk that reminded us that we aren't going to succeed at everything in life.  That sometimes we will fell down on ourselves but we ALL have great WORTH.

At the end of the evening, we were treated by the talented Mercy River with their song Beautiful for Me.  It was the perfect way to end a perfect night.  Thank you Soni and Brooke.  You are AWESOME.
Here are a few of the words of that song that touched each of our hearts

Can you hear a little voice
and he says

Has anybody told you you’re beautiful?
You might agree if you could see what I see
Oh
‘Cuz everything about you is incredible
You should have seen me smile the day that I made you beautiful for me.

At the end of the evening the girls went home with decorated mirrors that said
BEAUTIFUL FOR ME.  I hope we all remember that we are beautiful to our Father in Heaven.
This is a close up of the healthy food.  We had small veggie cups with ranch dressing.  There was a shot glass full of yummy green smoothies. Delicious fruit cups were a hit.  And irresistible strawberry shortcakes.  Are you questioning the strawberry shortcake.  Well at least the strawberries are healthy and they looked cute on the table.

Thank you to all the teachers and the sisters who came to welcome our newest members into the ward.  And a huge thanks to Sharon Child you opened up her beautiful home and yard to us.
 Welcome to Relief Society girls.

RS Birthday Celebration

Happy 171st Birthday Relief Society
Boyd K Packer said this
"It is my purpose to give unqualified endorsement to the Relief Society—to encourage all women to join in and attend, and priesthood leaders, at every level of administration, to act so that Relief Society will flourish.

"The Relief Society was organized and named by prophets and apostles who acted under divine inspiration. It has an illustrious history. Always, it has dispensed encouragement and sustenance to those in need.

"The tender hand of the sister gives a gentle touch of healing and encouragement which the hand of a man, however well intentioned, can never quite duplicate." ("The Relief Society," General Conference, April 1998; Ensign, May 1998.)

We chose 2 words which represent what Relief Society does for each sister individually.  I am sure you can agree that there have been times you have felt UPLIFTed by another sister.  We had 2 sisters share experiences of difficult times when they have been UPLIFTed by a sister in a time of need.  It was touching to hear their stories of triumph over tragedy through the tender heart of another sister.

The other word we chose as our theme was SPARK.  Often we are sparked by one another to be better women.  We are sparked and enlightened by another to be a better mother/wife/friend, to be more creative, to be more compassionate, to be more spiritual, to be loving.  It is often through the examples of others that we discover ways to improve and better ourselves to become the women that God intended us to be.  2 sisters shared how they were SPARKED by another member of Relief Society.
WE had a salad palooza dinner.  We feasted on all different kinds of salads brought by our generous Relief Society sisters.  We indulged on a dessert table piled high with all kinds of lemony treats.
Each sister got to take home a flag with the words UPLIFT and SPARK on it.  I have seen them displayed as I entered sisters homes..pinned on bullentin boards, hung on wreaths on their doors, stuck in flower pots.  Hopefully these are good reminders of the power we feel from one another.  We truly are blessed to be part of such a lovely organization that is divinely planned and watched over.
Our centerpieces where simple pots of wheat grass grown in baskets and chip/dip containers from the dollar store.  We used wheat that we all have buckets of in our food storage.  About 10 days before the event, I filled the containers 3/4 full of potting soil.  Then spread the seeds on top until you completely cover the dirt.  Water.  I grew mine down in my basement on top of folding tables with a fluorescent long lights directly over head.  You don't have to do this under artificial light.  I just wanted to ensure they would be full by the night of the birthday celebration.  You can grow outside under natural sunlight. Do not let it dry completely out.  Water often.
